HISTORY
Established in 1956, the College of (Teacher’s) Education (COE) at Zhejiang Normal University has a long school history in teaching and education. Its origins can be traced back to the founding of the teaching and research section of the Hangzhou Teacher’s College established in 1956. In 1989, COE was formally founded. In 1999, it was upgraded to the Collegeof Educational Science and Technology. In 2003, it was renamed as Tin Ka Ping Collegeof Education. In 2007, the Collegeof Teacher’s Education was formally established. In 2020, the Collegeof Education and Human Development was also co-listed as its name. In 2022, it was renamed again to the College of (Teacher’s) Education (COE).
OUR MISSION AND VALUE
We are standing at a new historical starting point. Our mission has always adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating teacher’s integrity and ethics, preparing professional teachers and future educational leaders. The College implements the four major strategies of "intelligence, internationalization, specialization and collaboration."
DEPARTMENT PROGRAMS
We nurture academic talents including undergraduates, masters, and doctoral studies. It consists of three departments: the Department of Professional Studies, the Department of Educational Information and Technology, and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The study of Educational Technology is a specialized national level, first-class undergraduate major and has been enlisted by the Ministry of Education as "professional comprehensive reform pilot". The study of Elementary Education is a provincial level, first-class undergraduate major.
FACULTY AND STUDENTS
Wehave built upa strong team of faculty memberswith reasonable structure, rich academic background, international vision, outstanding academic ability and certain influence in the academic circle. There are 163 faculty members, including 35 full professors, 46 assistant professors, and 89 doctors. Over 51% of faculty members has earned their Ph. D degrees from various domestic and oversea universities.
It has established one national level teaching team in the field of Modern Educational Technology, 2provincial level teams of post secondary educationof Zhejiang Province in the field of Teachers Education and Research and Higher Education.
Here at the college, we have a diverse and vigorous student population. Among them, the student body is made up of 824 full-time undergraduates, 1,497 postgraduates and postdoctoral students, and 116 international students. We embrace diversity and have students coming from various countries study at COE, we have students from Poland, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Nigeria, Madagascar, and etc.
ACADEMIC DEGREES AND ITS RANKING
COE always pays close attention to the construction of degrees andprograms and offers a vibrant array of high quality degree programs in education research and practice. The Degree of Education is a first-class program, which has been accreditedas “Class A” in Zhejiang Province. In the "2023 Soft Science Ranking of the Best Degree Programs in China", the Degree of Education ranks 8th in the country. It has been accredited grade B+ in the fourth round of evaluation from the Ministry of Education. The Master of Education degree was rated as A-level in the first ever professional degree level evaluation in the country.
The doctoral programs includeDoctor in Education, Intelligent Education, the Interdisciplinary of Teachers Education and Neuroscience, Doctor in Professional degrees in Education. The master programs consist of Master in Educational Studies (first-class), Master in Professional Studies, and other 9 second-class Master degree programs.
RESEARCH EXCELLENCE
COE is home to 17 research platform on the provincial level, including National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Teacher Education Training Center), Provincial Key Laboratory (Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Educational Technology and Application), Provincial Key Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences (Institute of Educational Reform and Development), Provincial Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences (Education),Provincial Basic Education Research Center, Provincial "2011 Collaborative Innovation Center" (Excellent Teacher Training), Provincial New-type University Think Tank, Provincial Off-campus Practical Base.
The College of Education has University level research platform such as International and Comparative Education Research Institute, Smart Education Research Institute,Tin Ka Ping Moral Education Research Center and Science Education Research Center.
These institutions shoulder the responsibilities of breaking new ground for educational research, nurturing graduates of distinction, enhancing academic structures and providing public services, etc.
GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT
COE implements the strategy of internationalization and has established extensive contacts with the University of Kansas, Ohio State University, Queen's University, University of Oxford, University of Geneva in Switzerland, Hiroshima University in Japan, and other overseas universities, carrying out in-depth academic exchanges and visits of teachers and students.
Many of our courses offer the opportunity to take part in overseas exchanges with partner universities. There are opportunities to study abroad, supported and funded by the College. Our visiting researchers and international collaborators enrich our life in the School.Ourinternational educational exchange programs help us to consider different perspectives and give us new experiences. With staff, students and alumni from all over the world we know that our diversity and our international collaborations enrich all of our university experiences.
