On the afternoon of July 21st, Professor Huang Xiao, Secretary General of the Physics Education and Popularization Special Committee of the China Youth Science and Technology Education Workers Association, Dean of the School of Education (Teacher Education College) of Zhejiang Normal University, and Director of the Science Education Research Center, delivered a special lecture on "Science Popularization and Teacher Literacy in the Digital Era". This lecture was presided over by Professor Chen Bingchu from the School of Education (Teacher Education College). More than 200 science teachers from primary and secondary schools in the province came to the scene to listen.

Technological innovation and scientific popularization are the two wings of achieving innovative development, and scientific popularization should be placed in an equally important position as technological innovation. Therefore, in the context of a technological and educational powerhouse, science education is crucial. Technological innovation is something that scientists, academicians, and top talents are doing, but scientific popularization is achieved by the public, society, and our vast number of science teachers, "Huang Xiao said.

In the context of the intelligent era, further fully utilizing digital technology to empower science popularization work is the only way to achieve high-quality development of science popularization. The "14th Five Year Plan for the Development of National Science and Technology Popularization" explicitly mentions the need to promote innovation in science popularization concepts, content, methods, and mechanisms, and deepen reforms on the supply and demand sides of science popularization. Huang Xiao specifically mentioned that the State Council has issued the "Outline of the National Action Plan for Scientific Literacy (2021-2035)", which is of great significance in improving scientific literacy, establishing a scientific worldview and methodology for citizens, enhancing the country's independent innovation ability and cultural soft power, and building a socialist modernized country. Teachers in primary and secondary schools should pay close attention to not only doing a good job in science education addition, but also carrying out scientific popularization work, and more importantly, building a strong teaching team to consolidate the foundation of science education.

Huang Xiao believes that promoting science popularization in the digital era requires international reference, an international perspective, and a practical foundation. He cited international cases such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, and South Korea, and proposed the need to deepen research on science popularization in doing a good job in science popularization. Taking "sound", "flip top toy", "touch ball", and "ivy leaf" as examples, it is discussed that science education and popularization practice originating from life should be used to better promote science popularization work.

At the end of the lecture, Huang Xiao proposed that science teachers in the intelligent era should understand the educational needs of the era, possess effective moral education ability, curriculum teaching ability, human-machine collaboration ability, and self growth ability. In addition, they should also have the ability to integrate science, technology, and education, as well as the ability to spread science.
