The closing ceremony of the Chinese Exchange and Study Camp for American Middle School Students was held on 14 June at 2 p.m. in the first-floor conference room of Building 9 in the Science and Technology Park of Zhejiang Normal University in Xihu District, Hangzhou. Jiang Jun, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, and Liu Chang, Director of the Exchange Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Education International Exchange Association, were in attendance at the meeting, which was chaired by Wu Qiang, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Zhejiang Normal University.
Despite initial reluctance, the outlook for the future is promising. A survey of American middle school students revealed a positive perception and nostalgic sentiment.
On reflection, the learning camp activities were a valuable experience.
The role of Chinese and American teenagers is to act as bridges and messengers, facilitating connections between the hearts of the two peoples and promoting friendly exchanges. This learning camp was conducted with the objective of developing a new vision for the future of China-US relations. The programme involved 14 campers visiting Hangzhou, Jinhua, Quzhou, Beijing and other locations to inspect primary, secondary and tertiary schools, visit technology factories, experience traditional culture and relive China-US friendship.
1. Understanding the educational environment.
American middle school students visited Chinese schools to gain insight into the Chinese educational system. The impressive campus facilities, digital teaching resources and extensive educational resources left a lasting impression on the American students. Innovation and practice have become the new educational focus, presenting a vibrant Chinese-style educational environment.
2. Exploring cultural characteristics.
During the Dragon Boat Festival, with dragon boat races and the fragrance of zongzi wafting everywhere, the American middle school students were able to appreciate the strong atmosphere of traditional Chinese festivals. The American middle school students gained an insight into the beauty of Chinese characters and the cultural confidence behind them in the calligraphy class. The students were impressed by the rural aesthetic education in the Yudong Painting Village, they were inspired by Confucius' Confucian spirit, and they were impressed by China's intangible cultural heritage inheritance.
3. Gaining an understanding of the potential applications of science and technology.
New energy vehicles are spearheading China's scientific and technological innovation, with a significant impact. American middle school students gained insight into the resilience and untapped potential of Chinese brands, and experienced the grandeur and excellence of Chinese science and technology.
It is important to note that there is still a long way to go. The feelings and nostalgia of American middle school students are understandable.
In China, students learned to make and use chopsticks, to write Chinese characters with a brush, and more importantly, to embrace the diversity of the world with an open and inclusive heart. Although they are about to embark on their journey home, this experience has taken root in their hearts like a seed. This valuable learning experience will inspire them to become bridges of friendship between China and the United States, regardless of their future career path.
On the occasion of parting, American middle school students expressed their feelings and reluctance to participate in the event.
I am passionate about learning about traditional Chinese customs, with a particular interest in the Dragon Boat Festival culture. I hope to have the opportunity to return to China in the future and to continue visiting and experiencing new places. The experience was extremely enlightening and enjoyable, thanks to the hard work of the Chinese teachers and students.

Upon exiting the airport, I was immediately struck by the city's impressive architecture and vibrant atmosphere, which was a stark contrast to my expectations. The city's natural beauty and culinary offerings were particularly noteworthy. I was genuinely welcomed and felt a sense of pride in sharing my experience with friends upon my return.

Furthermore, American middle school students also visited Hangzhou's West Lake. Regardless of whether it is boating on the lake, strolling along the Jiuqu Bridge, or sitting quietly on the broken bridge, every student is captivated by the poetic and artistic beauty of the West Lake. Additionally, US high school students will travel to Beijing to experience the charm of China's capital.
The Confidant in the Sea, the End of the World as a Neighbor
We hope that the memories of this study camp will continue to shine like stars, illuminating the road of friendship between China and the United States, wherever the students may be in the future.
