In the early summer of June, the class of 2023 from the Joint Education Institute of Zhejiang Normal University and the University of Kansas began their four-week course at the University of Kansas. This time, two courses, Education and Society and Children's Literature, are being studied. The aim is to improve the students' professional level, stimulate their interest in learning and lay a solid foundation for their future education and teaching.
The American teacher, Ms. Connie Chow, who is in charge of teaching Education and Society, obtained her doctoral degree from the world's top-ranked university, Harvard University. Dr. Chow employs discussion-based learning in the classroom, guiding students to think independently and share and communicate, thereby enhancing their understanding of the knowledge points.

The course Children's Literature is taught by Dr. Jaclyn Dudek from Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Dudek is adept at integrating knowledge points with classic picture book stories in the classroom, and fostering enthusiasm among students through various methods such as group discussions and poster making, thereby making abstract knowledge tangible and engaging.

Peaches and plums do not fall with the spring flowers, they scatter into the misty rain and fill the Jiangnan.
The distinctive teaching methods and strong professional abilities of the professors from the University of Kansas have left a profound impact on the students. During this short period of instruction, I have come to appreciate the value of collaborative learning. In the classroom, we engage in discussions and group work. The dynamic classroom environment alleviates the pressure to study, while maintaining a high level of motivation. In the classroom, we engage in active thinking and interaction, which facilitates the retention of knowledge points. (Wang Yuyang)
The innovative teaching approach of American educators has piqued our interest in learning. In comparison to the Chinese classroom, we have a greater range of opportunities to participate in the classroom. Through discussions, our understanding of the underlying significance of various concepts is enhanced. Although it is a new class model, all students are able to adapt quickly and actively participate, thereby experiencing its benefits. (Liu Jingyi)
Although there are currently only a few classes, I have already observed a high level of enthusiasm among the teachers. The limited number of classes has enabled me to gain an understanding of the differences between Chinese and American educational methods. The class created their own unique poems and completed the background story through group cooperation, which has been beneficial for me. (Ding Leran)
The recent professional courses have provided me with a valuable insight into the American teaching strategies, teaching types, and the history of American education. The foreign teachers use illustrative examples to assist us in comprehending professional terminology and to encourage active interaction and communication. The teachers' use of humour and wit has been a valuable learning experience (Qiu Ziying).
We are pleased to announce the commencement of the much-anticipated professional courses, taught by foreign teachers. In addition to the valuable insights gained from the course, we have also benefited from the experience of working with foreign teachers. The teaching methods employed by foreign teachers differ from those typically used by Chinese teachers. They place a strong emphasis on classroom discussions and communication between teachers and students. Furthermore, they are adept at fostering enthusiasm for learning. Their approach is to view themselves as guides, with students as the primary educators. This perspective has been particularly impactful, reinforcing my confidence in my own abilities. The classroom is filled with motivational quotes that enhance our morale and drive for success. Despite the number of class hours, the enthusiasm and vitality of the teachers ensures that the day's classes are full of energy and interest. The engaging classroom activities also help to maintain a positive and productive learning environment. I am confident that with the combined efforts of our teachers and students, we will achieve a smooth and successful outcome in the upcoming courses. (Dai Zhenzhen)
In the short time since the commencement of this course, the teachers' serious and responsible approach, coupled with the novel teaching methods employed, have enabled us to appreciate the significance of the education major. Furthermore, the engaging English books have also fostered a passion for learning. I believe this teaching method is highly beneficial to our English language learning and professional development. Furthermore, it encourages us to pursue progress and growth in exploring new avenues. (SuYankai)
The American courses were compact and fulfilling, and I was impressed by the variety of teaching methods employed. From the nuances of picture book reading to the innovative techniques of poster making, every classroom activity has demonstrated the profound appeal of education. My time in the classroom has not only deepened my understanding of the field of education, but also made me aware of the rigorous, professional and passionate teaching style of American teachers. This learning experience has significantly enhanced my knowledge base and has also fostered my aspirations for future learning and career advancement. (Shen Shitian)
